What led to you pursuing a career in instrumentation?

With just finishing college, I found CalX a perfect opportunity to gain some industrial experience. From my previous experiences, I understood that calibrations play an important role within many industries, so pursuing a career within this sector seemed ideal. I had minor knowledge regarding calibration services, but I was intrigued to learn more about this career path after researching the company. I am so glad I did.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I really enjoy the company as a whole. Everyone is so welcoming, friendly, and just make you feel part of the team from the get-go. I feel like I am constantly learning daily, which is a bonus to me because it keeps the job interesting, and I love developing my knowledge and skills where I can.

I enjoy working with the team as they make the job so much more enjoyable with the support, lively attitude, and constant communication amongst each other. It is quite nice to work for a company that is of a high standard and professional, but also appreciates their employees and creates a fun and enjoyable working atmosphere.

What’s your average day like?

My average day involves a morning meeting to discuss and plan for the tasks of the day/week. I would perform several calibrations with my team, while following client expectations and instrumentation specifications.

During the commissioning stage, there is a lot of troubleshooting involved with initial calibrations to solve any issues that may arise from the initial installation of instruments. I find this a great opportunity to develop my problem-solving skills as it makes you think of every aspect that may be a problem, and evidently carry this forward to future issues that may arise on different sites.

What’s it like working at CalX?

I think working at CalX would be a great opportunity for anyone that has an interest in this industry as they provide such a great workplace, pleasant atmosphere, and many opportunities to develop the skills and qualities that not only involve specialist knowledge of engineering/instrumentation/ calibration, but also key competencies and interpersonal skills like teamwork, communication, customer orientation, problem solving, self-confidence, and decision making.

I have grown as a person while working here, and I will carry what I have learnt with me to any other potential career opportunities that may be in my future.
